Sunny Ledfurd’s Greatest Hits – New Music Weekend

tattle

Sunny Ledfurd has been kicking around the music scene for years now, playing to fans mostly in bars with just his guitar, some good songs and faithful fans. Born in Chattanooga, TN and raised in Cramerton, NC he’s had his share of rejections from major labels from Nashville to Los Angeles. Being a man who does not take “No” for an answer and refusing to be “edited” with the content of his songs, he decided to build a home studio and cut his own CD, where he can sing about what he wants. This CD is comprised of the actual “first takes” of his recordings.

He says that he sings about partying because he’s been there, done that, and still does. He writes about all kinds of women because he’s dealt with all kinds. He sings about true things he thinks, feels, does or has done. There is no “smoke and mirrors” with Sunny – what you see and hear is how it is with him.

“I Don’t Remember Last Night” is a good example of something either in his past or present – and probably in a lot of ours as well if we were truthful enough to admit it! He can’t remember if he fell in love or got in a fight! Sounds like he was having one of those “hammered” nights! He was “down and out and high as a kite” and has no memory of the gal’s face he’s singing to! I had to laugh listening to this song because I’ve watched a lot of these scenarios in all my years of small venue and bar music concerts!

“The Reasons Why” reminds me of a Hank Jr. or David Allen Coe song – drinking and toting and staying in trouble with the law. He’s raw, raucous, and straightforward with this song. The song has some good harmony in it and language some might well be offended by – but anyone who remembers the live concerts with the various Outlaws in country music will well understand and love the song.

“Nickel Size Hail (& The Damaging Winds) features Colt Ford and has some great country rapping in it. Mix up one rebel singer and one rapping country boy and you have a lively country song. The song starts out with a big clap of thunder and compares his songs and music to a big storm – blowing out lights, kicking in windows with hail, the law showing up, everyone being afraid of his music and Colt Ford basically telling everyone to just bring it on in! It’s a great comparison because I’ve seen some concerts like that but then, I go where angels fear to tread sometimes!

If you want laid back, politically correct songs geared for the general public this CD is not for you. BUT – if you enjoy Outlaw music, raw and uncensored, this is a definite buy! Stop by his site athttp://www.myspace.com/sunnyledfurd and www.averagejoesent.com and take a listen yourself.

SUNNY LEDFURD RELEASE’S “GREATEST HITS 2003-2009”

countryfan
If there has ever been a way to describe Sunny Ledfurd, it has got to be his ability to defy categorization. Born in Chattanooga TN and growing up in Gaston County NC, he taught himself guitar at age 15. He knew then that playing the guitar was how he would make a living. Inspired by Guns n Roses, Snoop Dog & David Allan Coe among many, Sunny’s songs continually mix genres and push the envelope. “I’ve always liked artists that you can tell they have something to say. They’re not just singing some words ’cause it sounds cool.” Never one to shy away from a good time… drinking and women are involved in much of the music. With songs like ‘I Don’t Remember Last Night’, ‘Pontoon Boat’, ‘Adderral’, and ‘Myrtle Beach’, Sunny takes you through life in the south as he sees it and lives it.  Ledfurd’s songs aren’t entirely country,  His music is unique and he tends to blend different styles a bit. There’s a little hint of rap sprinkled in this album, but it is mostly country.  Sunny has put out six self-produced/self-released albums.  The music itself is enjoyable. Among others, “Ain’t Nothin’ Goin On” and “Got ‘Em” are easy on the ears. The rhythms to Ledfurd’s songs are upbeat and catchy, he is clearly talented in writing melodies.  Overall “Greatest Hits 2003-2009” is pretty good.  It is very rare where an artist goes against the grain and still can make music the way they want to and succeed.   Sunny Ledfurd is one of the rare few, he has gathered many fans over the years and he still continues to make music and make it his way.
